INSTRUCTOR: Manthos Stamoulis

Manthos Stamoulis, from Agrinio, Greece, will be teaching dances from the area of Nafpaktia and the island of Lesvos (Mytilene). Mantho has judged at the Hellenic Dance Festival (HDF) in the past.

Bio

Manthos Stamoulis is a doctor of History and Folklore Studies from University of Ioannina. He was born in 1964 in the village of Velaora near Karpenisi. Manthos moved to Charlotte and has lived there since 2016.

He first began learning dances as a child from his family in their village. He loved it so much he later studied and researched traditional Greek dances in several areas of Greece. He is passionate about traditional dances and sharing his knowledge about them. He has traveled to many countries in Europe promoting the Greek tradition with his dance groups from Athens and Agrinio. Manthos has been a Greek dance teacher for over 30 years and was a professional dancer in “Dora Stratou’s Greek Dances Theater” for 10 years.

He is currently a Greek Language teacher and an assistant principal at Socrates Academy where he spreads his knowledge and culture to the American youth. Here children and teens of all backgrounds get to learn Greek language and culture first hand. Manthos’ love for dance stays and he has been included as a judge for HDF in past years.
